Hi to all

well, this is officially the first entry for the SSC (for the uninnitiated... Sagewood Soccer Chix) It has taken a while, but we are officially up and running.

We had our last practice for the season today, so kinda a sad day for all. But i am hoping to set up a new league for next term (our own season). So far its going well, I have the approval from the school head of sport, so we know we will at least practice.

On a higher note, our team has made it into the local newspaper today, along with a photo (see below) and an article written by yours truely. (i dont have a scanner, so ill just retype the article) The original article was edited a wee bit, but for authenticity iv put in the edited version. Here goes, hope you enjoy...

''SAGEWOOD SOCCER CHICKS FLUFF THEIR FEATHERS FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME

The beginning of the second term officially saw the SSC (Sagewood Soccer Chicks) team shift into top gear in preparation for the season ahead. Many of the girls had only learnt to kick a ball, but they had more enthusiasm and longing to be on a soccer field than anyone else. Their first game of the season placed them against last year's winners, American International School of Johannesburg. It was a miserable loss. Surprisingly, the girls had a blast and only the coach was left feeling the side effects of losing. The label, 'losers' was to be left on the American School's pitch and forgotten. The fact they had played a full soccer match overshadowed the result.

They were playing without a soccer kit when the went down to Crawford Sandton, their arch rivals. Once again the ladies where basking in the satisfaction of playing soccer, literally... for the love of the game.

A big thank you was extended to Sharon Ross, of Adgenda Advertising for sponsoring the SSC with a full soccer uniform. In their shiny new kit, they had a narrow loss against King School Bryanston.

The SSC were now not only looking good, but starting to play like champions.

May 21 saw their six-a-side tournament at Reddam School. An excited SSC team, along with Fiona Dixon and Cheryl Woods, arrived at Reddam before the gates had opened. The ladies played with newfound pride and the team made it to the semi-finals. An unfortunate loss sent them home early, with the satisfaction of beating Crawford along the route to the knockout stages.''
